CM Mann's Ambitious Sports Push: 3,100 Stadiums Across Punjab by June 2026
Chandigarh, 26 December 2025 ; At a high level review of the Sports and Youth Services Department held on Wednesday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann issued clear, time bound directions to overhaul Punjab’s sports infrastructure, asking officers to complete 3,100 stadiums across the state by June 2026 at a cost of Rs 1,350 crore.
The Chief Minister also rolled out a sweeping package that includes ultra modern gyms at nearly 3,000 locations, distribution of 17,000 sports kits worth Rs 50 crore, launch of a comprehensive sports portal, and construction of a new Yuva Bhawan at a cost of Rs 43 crore, stressing that the government’s central objective is to channel the vast energy of Punjab’s youth into productive, disciplined pursuits and pull them away from the menace of drugs.
Punjab to Get Village Stadiums, 3,000 Gyms: CM Mann
Chairing a review meeting of the Sports and Youth Services Department on Wednesday, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the government is constructing these stadiums in villages across Punjab in line with the New Sports Policy 2023. He stated that the government will spend ₹1,350 crore on these stadiums to provide fencing, gates, jogging tracks, levelled playgrounds, trees, volleyball courts, stores, and other facilities. He directed officials to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe and ensure high-quality construction at all costs.
The Chief Minister announced that the government will set up ultra-modern gyms at around 3,000 locations across the state to channel the energy of youth in a positive direction. In the first phase, the government will spend ₹35 crore to establish these gyms at 1,000 locations across the state. These gyms will have ultra modern equipment like barbell, weight lifting Sets, benches, dumbbell sets, kettlebell Sets, racks, floor mats and others at all locations,” he highlighted.
Punjab to Get 17,000 Sports Kits, Sports Portal Launched
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann also said that 17,000 Sports Kits for players will be distributed by the state government. The total cost of this initiative is Rs 50 crore. “These kits will have Volleyball and Football. They include three balls and two nets each. Cricket kits will have two bats, wickets, and six tennis balls at every location.” The Chief Minister instructed the officers. They must ensure that 5,600 sports kits are distributed in the villages by March 31, 2026.
He also expressed immense pride and satisfaction. The Department is all set to launch a comprehensive Sports Portal. “The sports lovers and sportspersons will be able to access many facilities. These include the registry of Players, Online Gradation, and Online DBT. They can also organize Sports Events, reserve grounds, and receive e-Certificates. Other features include recording Results, and applying for pensions or Scholarships. All these are available with a single click. Trekking, adventure, team Activity Camps will also be organized in the state’s nine Forest Areas for 10,000 youth,” he said.
CM Mann Unveils Youth Camps, New Yuva Bhawan
The Chief Minister announced the schedule for camps starting in January. These camps will be organized in several locations. They include Pallanpur, Siswan, and Mirzapur (Mohali). Additional locations are Tibba Tapria (Ropar), Nara (Hoshiarpur), and Harike Pattan Wetland (Tarn Taran). “A New Yuva Bhawan will come up in Sector 42 A, at a cost of Rs 43 crore. This will have hostel facilities for 200 youth. It will include an auditorium with a capacity of 400. There will also be a conference hall, seminar room, and other facilities,” he added.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the Punjab government has introduced Sports Policy 2023. They have enhanced the budget from Rs 350 crore in 2023-2024 to Rs 1,000 Crore in 2024-25. He said, “The government is replacing hockey turfs at Mohali, Bathinda, and Ludhiana at a cost of ₹10.50 crore, and the Indian Hockey Federation has duly approved the project.”
CM Mann Orders Fast-Track Synthetic Track in Mohali
The Chief Minister asked the officers to complete the work on a new Synthetic Track. This track is under construction at a cost of Rs 9 crore. It is located in Mohali Sports Stadium Sector 78. The deadline for completion is March, 2026.
The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction. Punjab is the first state in the country to have a Sports Medicine Cadre. The Punjab government has selected 92 personnel in the cadre to attend to injured players and improve their performance. The government aims every effort at channelizing the boundless energy of the youth in a positive direction. This approach weans them away from the menace of drugs,” he added.
