Land Registration : Tehsildar Arrested for Rs 20,000 Bribe by VB

Chandigarh November 27, 2024 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has apprehended Sukhcharan Singh, Tehsildar, posted at tehsil Tapa in district Barnala red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 for land registration

Arrested based on a complaint lodged

An official spokesperson of the VB disclosed today that they arrested the mentioned officer based on a complaint filed by Amrik Singh, a resident of Beehla village in Barnala district. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that his friend Harbhajan Singh, of village Maur Nabha, in Barnala district had to get registration of 2 canal 4 marla of agricultural land from the said Tehsildar but he was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from complainant.

He added that after verifying the complaint, the VB Barnala unit set a trap and arrested the Tehsildar red-handed while accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. Authorities also recovered the tainted bribe money from his account.

The authorities have registered a case against the accused.

He said the VB has registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Patiala Range police station, and further investigation is ongoing.
