Pertinently, the approx. Rs. 350 crore project had been delayed due to varied reasons since long but under the constant push by Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan and the hard work put in by the young SDM it has finally materialized. The Balongi stretch was the first to be opened in October, followed by widening of the road between Balongi and Kharar T-point and construction of another two stretches of flyover and three minor bridges in early December. The total length of the fly over is around 10km. As of now, the complete Verka Chowk to Khanpur – Ludhiana stretch has been thrown open to public.Sharing the milestones achieved between July -2019 to Dec 2020, SDM Himanshu Jain informed that taking over possession of multiple lands was a major bottleneck in the project. Demolition drives were conducted since July-19 and about 99% length of project was cleared for shifting of utilities , drain work and service road which was earlier only 40% . Thereafter, working on mission mode, the completion of drain work was accomplished; pulling it up from 20% to 100%, followed by construction of Service Roads and shifting of high tension lines in a timely manner which was pending since long. Despite COVID19 challenge, regular supply of Fly ash and Gravels from Ropar was ensured. Flyover top structures are now complete and progress of wall of elevated approach road is almost 95%, said he.
