Kang Demands Modi Take Action Against Verma’s Shameful Remarks; Punjabis Fought for India's Freedom and Build Delhi
Chandigarh, January 22; Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab strongly condemned BJP leader Parvesh Verma for his derogatory remarks. His comments were divisive and targeted Punjabi’s. AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang addressed a press conference on Wednesday. He was accompanied by spokesperson Neel Garg. They strongly criticized the BJP and its leadership for promoting politics of hatred. They also accused them of encouraging polarization.
“Kang Criticizes Verma’s Anti-Punjab Remarks Before Republic Day”
Kang criticized Verma for insinuating that vehicles with Punjab registration in Delhi could be part of a conspiracy ahead of Republic Day. He said, “BJP leader Parvesh Verma has openly displayed the anti-Punjab mindset of his party. His baseless allegations against Punjabi’s reflect BJP’s deep-seated prejudice against the people of Punjab.”
Malvinder Singh Kang highlighted that Punjabi’s have played a pivotal role in Delhi’s development and in India’s freedom struggle. “Delhi owes its progress to the sacrifices and contributions of Punjabi’s. From liberating India to reshaping Delhi’s landscape, Punjabi’s have always stood at the forefront. “Furthermore, to label them as terrorists is not only insulting to Punjab but also to the entire nation,” Kang asserted.
Punjabi’s ; Kang Condemns BJP’s Divisive Tactics, Calls for Apology
He further condemned the timing and intent of Verma’s remarks. He emphasized that they reflect the BJP’s deliberate use of polarizing tactics. These tactics are used ahead of the elections in Delhi. “When elections are near, the BJP repeatedly stoops to the politics of fear and division. Punjab-registered vehicles are being unfairly vilified. However, Delhi is a national capital. Every citizen has the undeniable right to visit and reside there without exception. Therefore, such remarks are not only divisive but also blatantly unconstitutional,” Kang emphasized.
Calling Parvesh Verma’s statement a betrayal of national unity, Kang strongly demanded not only an immediate apology from him but also decisive action by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Furthermore, he emphasized, “I urge the PM to take swift and appropriate action against Verma for his shameful remarks. If, however, he fails to do so, then the BJP must, without delay, publicly apologize to Punjabi’s,” Kang said.
AAP’s MP also appealed to Delhi voters to reject BJP’s divisive politics. “Delhi residents must teach these hateful, divisive leaders a lesson on February 5. They have disrespected Punjabi’s and the nation with their remarks. This is not just Punjab’s issue; it concerns every Indian who believes in unity and democracy.”
Kang concluded, “The BJP must clarify its stand or get ready to face the backlash of the people. Punjabi’s have always been the backbone of this nation, and such statements will not be tolerated,” he said.
