Jatinder Singh Aulakh, a 1997-Batch IPS officer of Punjab Cadre, selected as DSP by PPSC in April 1990, is finally assuming the position of ‘Chairman’ of the commission. Aulakh becomes the first IPS officer appointed as chairman of Punjab Public Services Commission, Patiala,

after his extensive 33-year career in Punjab Police. Rising from ‘Deputy Superintendent of Police’ to ‘Intelligence Chief,’ retiring as ‘Additional Director General of Police,’ Aulakh has dedicated considerable time to volunteering at Pingalwara Charitable Trust, Amritsar, and Palsora Branch in Chandigarh for social work.

Aulakh attributes his success to his father

Hailing from Bargari Village, District Faridkot, Aulakh attributes his success to his father, Late  Jagwinder Singh Aulakh, who served as the ‘Sarpanch’ of Village Bargari for 35 years, shaping his personality and keeping him grounded. Aulakh attended PPS Nabha for schooling and pursued BA (Honors) from DAV College, Chd, followed by LL.B. and Master’s in History from Punjab University.

Recognized as a soft-spoken yet firm administrator

Recognized as a soft-spoken yet firm administrator, Aulakh’s experience includes working in the Chief Minister’s office under Late Harcharan Singh Brar. Throughout his career, spanning various regimes, he held crucial positions in Punjab Police, including ‘Senior Superintendent of Police’ in districts like SAS Nagar, Sangrur, Ropar, Jagraon, SBS Nagar, and Khanna. He also served as ‘Commissioner of Police, Amritsar,’ ‘Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana,’ ‘IGP Patiala Range,’ and ‘IGP Ferozepur Range,’ among others.

Aulakh received numerous accolade

Aulakh received numerous accolades, notably for solving the ‘Jassi Murder Case’ as ‘SSP Sangrur’ in 2000, and developing the ‘SECURITY NET’ web portal adopted by Gujarat & Himachal Pradesh Governments during State Assembly Elections, earning him the ‘National Award (Special), 2018.’ He was honored with ‘Police Medal for Distinguished Services’ (2022), ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Services’ (2011), and other commendations.

With his expertise and understanding of Punjab’s challenges, Aulakh’s leadership as ‘Chairman’ of Punjab Public Service Commission is expected to be invaluable.
