Industrial Revolution in Punjab!10.32 Lakh New Small Industries; Mann Government's Boost Empowers 2.55 Lakh Women Entrepreneurs!
Chandigarh, November 13, 2025 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has launched an unprecedented and successful campaign to strengthen the state’s industrial backbone: the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). MSME stands for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, a system used by the government to identify small and medium-scale businesses or industries based on their size (capital investment and turnover). The government’s clear vision and pro-entrepreneur policies have created an environment that has made Punjab not only a favored investment destination but is also setting new records in job creation and economic self-reliance. This effort has brought Punjab’s economy onto a new, fast, and inclusive growth trajectory.
The results of the Mann government’s efforts are clearly visible on the ground. Between March 2022 and March 2025, Punjab registered 10,32,682 new small industries in just three years. This is a monumental achievement, reflecting the vastly improved business environment in Punjab and the confidence people have in the government’s policies to step forward and start their ventures.
Industrial : Over 10 Lakh New Industries Boost Punjab’s Economy
These more than 10 lakh new industries have brought in a significant investment of ₹24,806.91755 crore (over 24 thousand crore rupees) to Punjab. This massive investment demonstrates that industrialists and small traders feel secure investing their capital in the state. Industries are using this capital to buy new machinery, build factories, and hire people, significantly strengthening Punjab’s economy.
The most beautiful aspect of this progress is the tremendous participation of women. A total of 2,55,832 of the new industries are owned by women. This is a major victory for the Mann government, highlighting its focus not just on industry, but on women’s empowerment. Such a large number of women running their own businesses signifies the progress of the entire society. Alongside this, 7,73,310 industries are owned by men, indicating that every segment is getting an opportunity to move forward.
Analyzing the sectors, the number of Manufacturing units is substantial. Investors established 2,57,670 new manufacturing industries, bringing in ₹9,009 crore in investment. Out of these, the majority—2,54,764—are very small (Micro) industries. This shows that people in villages and small towns are creating and selling their own products, fostering grassroots economic strength.
Punjab Emerges as North India’s Major Hub for Trade and Services
Punjab has also performed exceptionally well in the Service Sector (which includes shops, computer repair, transport, hotels, and other service-providing businesses). A massive 3,51,467 new units have started in this sector, with an investment of ₹7,135 crore. In this area too, 3,50,454 are Micro industries, indicating rapid growth among small shopkeepers and service providers.
In terms of Trading (the buying and selling of goods), Punjab has taken the lead. The highest number of new ventures, 4,23,545, have commenced in this sector, attracting an investment of ₹8,663 crore. This highlights Punjab’s emergence as a major commercial hub in North India. This includes 4,17,992 Micro traders, who are boosting the vibrancy of Punjab’s markets.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government is not resting on today’s successes but is actively working to improve the future. On February 22, 2024, the government approved the formation of an “MSME Wing,” a groundbreaking initiative. This will be a dedicated office solely focused on supporting small industries. The wing will ensure that industries can easily access loans. They can also adopt new technology and machinery. Additionally, they will be able to sell their products both domestically and internationally. This decision reflects the long-term vision of the Mann government.
