CHANDIGARH/SAS NAGAR, September 15:

          Continuing the special campaign “Har Shukarvaar, Dengue Te Vaar” initiated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to save people from this vector-borne disease, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Friday led the health teams to conduct door-to-door checking at houses situated at Sohana village in Mohali. The campaign was commenced on August 4 this year.

          During his visit on Friday, the Health Minister visited several houses in different localities and found larvae at mosquito larvae hotspots including desert coolers, trays kept under refrigerators, utensils lying in the open, drains, etc.

          He said that although, the dengue cases have started decreasing in the state, still people need to be cautious at least till November and they can easily save themselves from this deadly disease by not letting water stagnation in their surroundings.

          The Minister urged people to make a routine on Friday to drain out/flush out the stagnant water to stop the breeding of dengue larvae, which takes a week to become a mosquito.

          Responding to the query by the media about fines being issued to frequent violators, Dr Balbir Singh said that although, this is an educational campaign and is not supposed to frighten the people, health teams have been issuing challans to the frequent violators. “Health teams have issued at least 8000 challans where they found dengue larvae so far,” he said.

          Meanwhile, the purpose of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann behind launching this awareness drive was to educate people and make it a mass-level campaign to beat dengue disease, which can be easily defeated with community participation.
