Government Aid: Rs. 5,000 for First, Rs. 6,000 for Second Girl Birth

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Milestone: 116,000+ Women Apply by Jan 2024

Chandigarh, February 17:  Under the  Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, the Punjab government has disbursed Rs. 25 crore in the current fiscal year to enhance the nutrition and health status of pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Government Commitment and Minister’s Assertion

Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, emphasizes the government’s  unwavering commitment to the scheme, which aims at enhancing the nutrition and well-being of both mother and child.

Financial Assistance Breakdown

The government gives Rs. 5,000 in two installments to women aged 19 years and above upon the birth of their first live child. Additionally, it provides Rs. 6,000 upon the birth of a second girl child to contribute to improving the sex ratio.

 Over 1,16,000 Women Beneficiaries Registered

By January 2024, women beneficiaries had filled approximately 1,16,000 forms, surpassing the initial target of 98,036 beneficiaries to be reached by March 2024.

Direct Benefit Transfer and Assistance Process

The scheme facilitates direct deposits into bank accounts or post office accounts linked with Aadhaar cards. Anganwadi workers assist in filling out the forms for financial assistance.

Dr. Baljit Kaur urges officials to expedite form processing for eligible beneficiaries and provides contact information for additional inquiries.
