Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday said that in order to fulfill aspirations of great freedom fighters the government is according top priority to the Health and Education sectors in the state.
Addressing the gathering here during a state level function to mark the martyrdom day of Shaheed Karnail Singh Issru, the hero of Goa liberation, the Chief Minister said that to achieve this goal the state government has given a facelift to the schools and hospitals across the state. He said that while schools have been equipped with the latest technology to impart quality education to the students, the infrastructure has been upscaled in hospitals to ensure that people get the best treatment. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Aam Aadmi Clinics and Schools of Eminence have transformed the destiny of people of state.
The Chief Minister said that problems like corruption and drugs have flourished in the state due to the patronization by the previous governments. However, he said that his government has adopted a zero tolerance policy towards these maladies that have ruined the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government has already crackdown on the corrupt elements in the state and corruption has been weeded out of the state.
The Chief Minister said that the life and sacrifice of these legendary martyrs are a source of inspiration for all of us. Bhagwant Singh Mann recalled the stellar role of martyrs of state in the national freedom movement. He said that it is a matter of great pride for us that Punjabis had played a leading role in the national freedom struggle.
Paying tributes to Shaheed Karnail Singh Issru, the Chief Minister said that the martyr was the hero of the liberation of Goa from Portuguese imperialism. He said that the people will always remain indebted to this great national hero for his supreme sacrifice. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he is fortunate to have got this opportunity to visit this sacred place.
The Chief Minister said that due to strenuous efforts of the state government, the Mohali International Airport has already been named after legendary martyr Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that apart from it a 35 feet statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh will be installed at the road leading to the airport on coming September 28. He said that the state government has already sent a resolution to request the Government of India (GOI) to name the upcoming International Airport at Indian Air force Station Halwara, Ludhiana as Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport.
Interacting with the media persons, the Chief Minister bemoaned that wrestler Vinesh Phogat missed the historic moment of bagging the medal in Paris Olympics due to callousness of the coaches and experts. He emphasized that coaches and staff are duty bound to maintain wrestlers’ weight under prescribed norms as they get hefty salaries from the public exchequer. However, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that there was a serious lapse in this case, which has bruised the psyche of millions of sports lovers.
On another query, the Chief Minister said that he is always ready to welcome leaders of good stature and repute in the Aam Aadmi Party fold. He said Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi, who has been recently added to the party, is an honest mass leader. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the doors of Aam Aadmi Party are always open for the leaders who have a vision for development of the state and welfare of its people.
The Chief Minister said that due to pro-people policies of the state government, a reverse trend is being witnessed in the state. He said that the government has given more than 44000 jobs to youth in a transparent manner so youngsters who had earlier moved abroad are coming back to the state to get jobs. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that educational institutions in the state have seen a huge surge in admissions by the youth.
