Manual to Mechanised; Punjab leading the path with launch of advanced apparatus to end Manual Sewer Cleaning
Chandigarh, June 13: In a landmark initiative tomodernize urban sanitation, Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Friday flagged off a fleet of 730 advanced cleaning machines worth Rs. 39.56 crore for 150 Municipalities, marking a decisive shift from manual to mechanized sewer cleaning across the state.
Modern Sewer Cleaning Fleet with No Manual Entry”
The comprehensive mechanization program includes specialized equipment. This equipment is designed to address every sanitation challenge. It eliminates the need for human entry into sewer lines. The fleet includes Jetting-cum-Suction Machines. These machines use high-pressure water jets combined with powerful suction to clear stubborn blockages. Grab Bucket Machines are used to safely remove silt from manholes without endangering workers.
The administration has deployed compact Mouse Jetters for narrow lanes and congested urban areas. They have also deployed environmentally-friendly E-Rickshaw Mounted Desilting Machines that operate on battery power. Durable Rodding Sets further strengthen the sanitation arsenal. Technicians use Sewer Inspection Cameras to assess hazardous locations.Pumping Sets handle overflow emergencies. Industrial-grade Super Suction Machines are capable of thorough cleaning operations.
Sewer Cleaning Machines to End Manual Sewer Work in Punjab
Dr. Singh said that this technological transformation goes hand-in-hand with the government’s commitment to worker welfare. “These machines represent our progress in urban infrastructure. Our true achievement is in safeguarding the dignity and lives of sanitation workers,” he stated. The government has implemented a robust worker protection framework. It includes the mandatory provision of modern safety equipment and comprehensive health insurance coverage. There are also regular medical check-ups. Specialized training programs for machine operation are provided, along with clear career progression pathways.
“Officials have made 218 machines operational in the Sangrur Cluster and are deploying the remaining 512 across other municipalities at a cost of Rs. 39.56 crore.”The government will conduct quarterly performance reviews. This initiative positions Punjab as a leader in urban sanitation reform. The plans aim to completely eradicate manual sanitation of sewer lines. They will set new benchmarks in worker safety and infrastructure management.
