Formulate policy to provide financial assistance, jobs and loan waiver to martyred farmers, Aman Arora asks Captain

…If govt can give jobs to its loved ones on compassionate grounds, then why discrimination against poor farmers

…Captain, Modi same when it comes to harass farmers

Chandigarh, December 22

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab on Tuesday has demanded from the Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to immediately formulate and implement a policy regarding financial assistance, employment and debt waiver for the martyrs of the ongoing farmers’ movement for the survival of Punjab. In a statement issued from the party headquarters, senior AAP leader and Sunam MLA Aman Arora said that the Captain Amarinder Singh led state government was playing a double game with the people of Punjab. He said that they could change all the laws to give jobs to their loved ones, but cannot formulate a policy for the martyrs of the farmers’ movement, fighting to save the Punjab farmers and agriculture.

Arora said that the farmers and laborers were struggling to save the Punjab farmers who were agitating against the centre’s anti-farmers black laws in the bitter cold at the Delhi-Haryana border. A large number of people were getting sick and dying because of the cold, while many were martyred on a daily basis due to road accidents while commuting to and fro from Punjab. “It is the duty of Captain Amarinder Singh government to help the families of the martyrs of the farmers’ movement. They should immediately formulate a policy of financial assistance, jobs and an entire debt waiver for the families of the martyrs,” he added.

AAP leader said that many meetings of the Punjab Cabinet had been held since the inception of farmers’ movement, but it was very unfortunate that no discussion about the martyrs and policy was formulated in these meetings. The Captain government elected by the people of Punjab had forgotten its own people in the intoxication of power.  Captain Amarinder can give the job of a DSP to the grandson of former Chief Minister Beant Singh and brother of Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu on compassionate grounds by making changes in the rules when he had to give any benefit to his loved ones. Similarly he can waive off the rent of about Rs 80 lakh of a government house allotted to former Punjab chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, but nothing for the farmers of Punjab.

“Why is the government so apathetic towards the martyrs who fought for the survival of Punjab? The farmers of Punjab who are struggling against the black laws imposed by the Modi government should be given their fair due rights and the main objective would be providing them government aid,” said Arora. He said that due to the anti-farmers and anti-people policies of Congress and SAD-BJP, the farmer of the state was going through a critical period and was being forced to commit suicide in such a situation.
