CHANDIGARH/BATHINDA, August 17:
Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a crime-free state as per vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Bathinda in a joint operation with Sri Muktsar Sahib Police apprehended one more key accused identified as Lovejeet Singh alias Labha of Sri Muktsar Sahib for his involvement in Ferozepur Triple Murder case, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday.
The development came close on the heels of Anti-Gangster Task Force arresting five persons, including the mastermind Sunil Bhandari alias Nata, who orchestrated the three recent killings took place in Ferozepur on July 31, 2024.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that accused Lovejeet Singh, who is the main associate of Gangster Sunil Bhandari alias Nata, harboured him and his associates after the murder. Police teams have also recovered two pistols— including one .30 bore pistol and one .32 bore pistol— along with four live cartridges from the possession of arrested accused Lovjeet Labha, he added.
The DGP said that police teams have carried out the investigation in a professional and scientific manner to solve the case. Further investigations are on to establish backward and forward linkages in the this case, he said.
Sharing operation details, AIG CI Bathinda Avneet Kaur Sidhu said that police teams had received intel-inputs about the presence of the suspected person at village Khane ki Dhab and village Ena Khera. Acting swiftly, police teams from CIA Bathinda in a joint operation with Sri Muktsar Sahib Police laid a trap and apprehended accused Lovejeet Singh from near Sua Pul in village Ena Khera, she added.
SSP Sri Muktsar Sahib Tushar Gupta said that in this regard, a case FIR no. 88 dated 16.08.2024 has been registered under section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Sadar Malout in Sri Muktsar Sahib. As per previous criminal record, arrested accused Lovejeet Singh had been facing a criminal case under NDPS act and came out of Faridkot Jail in September 2023, he added.
