Meet Hayer raises issue of farmers in Parliament, Accuses Modi government of reneging on promises
Chandigarh/New Delhi, December 16. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Lok Sabha member from Sangrur, raised the Punjab Farmers’ Rights in Parliament. He did this on Monday . He did so emphatically. Hayer accused the Narendra Modi government of reneging on its promises. MP said that the government is preventing farmers from reaching the national capital. Veteran farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on hunger strike for 21 days, but the government remains unconcerned.
Farmers staged protests to demand the repeal of the draconian laws.
Today, Hayer said that farmers protested to have the draconian laws repealed, during which 700 farmers were martyred. The government promised in writing to guarantee MSP, but they have not fulfilled it.. Jagjit Singh Dallewal is sitting on the Khanauri border. He is not there for his personal interests. He is there for the sake of the farmers of the country. While the government has waived off Rs. 10 lakh Crore of a few hundred industrialists, it has not waived the loans of farmers. These farmers constitute half the population.
Punjab Farmers : India has become the fifth largest economy in the world.
The Member Parliament further said that India has become the fifth largest economy in the world. However, the real situation is that we are at number 141 in per capita income. Out of a population of 140 Crore, only 10 percent of the people earn more than Rs. 25,000 per month with 90 percent of the people earning less than Rs. 25,000. Many of these are farmers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised farmers that he would double their income after forming the government in 2014. However, in 11 budgets presented since then, their income has not increased.
State made around 80 percent of sacrifices in the freedom movement
Meet Hayer further said that no village in Punjab lacks the sight of youth bodies wrapped in the tricolor. These youths protected the country’s borders. The State made around 80 percent of sacrifices in the freedom movement. Our farmers also contributed hugely to make the country self-reliant. Today, the farmers of Punjab are not allowed to come to the capital. They want to come on foot only in small numbers. Still, the government is behaving in a dictatorial way. Today, authorities made the border between the two states an international border.
government to fulfill the written promise and guarantee MSP
Meet Hayer requested the government to fulfill the written promise and guarantee MSP to the farmers. Earlier, 700 farmers have given their lives. No other farmer should lose his life. They should get their rights.
