ECI announces By-Elections for Four Assembly Seats in Punjab

Chandigarh, October 15: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced by-elections for four assembly seats in Punjab: 10-Dera Baba Nanak, 44-Chabbewal (SC), 84-Gidderbaha, and 103-Barnala.

Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C stated that they will issue the notification for these by-elections on 18 October. Candidates must file their nominations by 25 October, and they will conduct the scrutiny of nomination papers on 28 October. The last date for withdrawing candidacy is 30 October.

Sibin C also informed that voting will take place on 13 November, and they will count the votes and announce the results on 23 November.

He further stated that with the announcement of the by-elections, the election code of conduct has come into effect in the districts where these constituencies are located: Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala. The code of conduct will remain in force until the completion of the election process till 25 November.

Number of Voters and Polling Stations in Four Assembly Constituencies : : CEO

Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C mentioned that, as of 10th October 2024, the total number of voters in the four constituencies is 6,96,316, with a total of 831 polling stations.

For 10-Dera Baba Nanak, there are 1,93,268 voters and 241 polling stations. In 44-Chabbewal (SC), the number of voters is 1,59,254, with 205 polling stations.

He further added that 1,66,489 voters are registered in 84-Gidderbaha, and 173 polling stations have been established. Meanwhile, in 103-Barnala, there are 1,77,305 voters and 212 polling stations.

By-Elections : District Election Officer appointed

Sibin C announced the appointment of Uma Shankar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur, as the District Election Officer for the Dera Baba Nanak assembly constituency. Komal Mittal, Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur, will serve as the District Election Officer for Chabbewal (SC). The government has assigned Rajesh Tripathi, Deputy Commissioner of Sri Muktsar Sahib, to the Gidderbaha constituency, while Poonamdeep Kaur, Deputy Commissioner of Barnala, will oversee Barnala as the District Election Officer.

Additionally, the SDM of Dera Baba Nanak has assumed the role of Returning Officer for that constituency, while the ADC (G) of Hoshiarpur has taken on the role of Returning Officer for Chabbewal (SC). The SDM of Gidderbaha has become the Returning Officer for Gidderbaha, and the SDM of Barnala for Barnala.

Sibin C assured that the by-election will be conducted peacefully, impartially, and with full transparency.
