Chandigarh, July 24-

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said that due to strenuous efforts of the state government enrolment in pre-primary wings of the Government schools have witnessed an unprecedented hike which indicates a reverse trend in the education sector.

The Chief Minister said that after assuming the charge of office his government has laid major thrust on the upliftment of the education sector in the state. He said that priority is being given to rejuvenate the education being imparted in the government schools so that the students studying in these schools can compete with their convent educated peers. Bhagwant Mann said that the concerted efforts of the state government have borne fruits and the enrolment of students in these schools has witnessed a new high.

The Chief Minister said that this can be gauged well from the fact that the enrollment in Pre-primary (I) wing has enhanced by 16.3% and that in pre-primary (II) wing has witnessed a hike of 9.9%. He said that this is testimony to the fact that the government schools of the state have been turned into harbingers of quality education and numbers of students from private schools are now taking admission in them after leaving their schools. Bhagwant Mann said that this trend will continue in the coming days and the day is not far away when the students from these schools will leave a mark in every field.

The Chief Minister reiterated that breaking the more than 70 years old jinx in the state, his government is making concerted efforts to transform the education sector in the state. He said that due focus is being laid on infrastructure and human resource development to give fillip to the education in the state. Bhagwant Mann said that the day is not far when Punjab will emerge as a centre of quality education across the country.
