Cricketer Shubman Gill Named ‘State Icon’ for Lok Sabha Elections

Chief Electoral Officer Taps Shubman Gill and Tarsem Jassar for Voter Awareness

Chandigarh, February 19: The office of Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer has designated Indian cricketer Shubman Gill  as the ‘State Icon’. Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C stated that he appointed Punjab resident Shubman Gill, who is popular among cricket enthusiasts, especially the youth, as the ‘State Icon’. Gill will assist in garnering more than 70 percent of the votes during the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Tarsem Jassar has also been appointed as a ‘State Icon’.
He mentioned that Shubman Gill will engage in various campaigns aimed at voter awareness to ensure the achievement of the target of “Is Vaar 70 Paar”. Prior to this, authorities had appointed popular Punjabi singer Tarsem Jassar as a ‘State Icon’.

During a meeting with all the Deputy Commissioners of Punjab last Friday, Sibin C further informed that he instructed them to identify areas where the voting percentage was low during the last elections..

He stated that awareness campaigns and appeals by Shubman Gill and Tarsem Jassar in such areas would motivate the voters and increase voter turnout.

The Chief Electoral Officer expressed hope that Shubman  and Tarsem Jassar would influence the first-time voting youth to exercise their franchise, while also appealing to people of other age groups to vote in large numbers.
