Digital Media Association condemn registration of sedition cases against media persons
Chandigarh, Jan 31- The Digital Media Association of Punjab today strongly condemned the registration of criminal cases including sedition cases against many media persons of Delhi and demanded immediate cancellation of FIRs’
Devinderjeet Singh Darshi President of Digital Media Association in a statement here said that a meeting of the association held under the chairmanship of Satinder Bains passed a resolution against harassments’ of media persons who were covering farmers agitation. Others attended the meeting included Parminder Singh Jattpuri, Devinder Singh Kohli, Parminder Singh Jattpuri, Mahavir Jain and Prashant Sharma.
The Association President noted that the FIRa are registered in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh for incidents happened on Republic Day at Delhi. He said that during the farmers protest there was lack of proper information by Delhi police on events related to happenings round the city. Journalists were reporting as they were receiving input from various sources. The journalists were not any fault. Booking journalists under sedition law was clear attempt to gag the press.
Darshi stated that while six journalists are booked from Delhi, one journalist Mandeep Punia who was forcibly dragged by police from the Singhu border. Police has registered a FIR against him. He said that Digital Media Association stands firmly with the media fraternity of Delhi.
