Pledging to make Punjab a frontrunner state in the country, the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday vowed to realise dream of Shaheed Bhagat Singh by ensuring holistic development of state.
At the very outset, the Chief Minister felicitated the family members of Shaheed Bhagat Singh ji including Harjinder Pal Singh Gill, Baldev Singh Nasrala, Ravinder Singh, Gurjit Kaur and Harbhajan Singh Dhatt
Addressing the gathering during state level function to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh ji, the Chief Minister said that the state government will realise the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and ensure that no one from the state migrate abroad. He said that the necessary steps are already being taken by the state and no stone will be further left unturned for it. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government has already put the wheels of state government in motion to start reverse migration in the state.
The Chief Minister announced to make relevant changes in the school curriculum for keeping the younger generations abreast about the lives, philosophy and teachings of great Sikh Gurus, seers, saints, prophets and martyrs. He said that the youth of the state should take inspiration from these noble souls for which necessary changes in syllabus of schools will be made. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this will help in perpetuating the glorious legacy of the state amongst our coming generations.
The Chief Minister said that today is not a normal function but a celebration of birthday of the greatest legend in the world. He said that at the age when youth demands gifts from their parents, Shaheed Bhagat Singh ji sought freedom for his motherland from the Britishers. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is the biggest day in the life of every Indian adding that this day has special significance in his life.
The Chief Minister said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh was a well read leader who was always worried about the welfare of people. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the iconic martyr had played a great role in emancipating the country from clutches of British imperialism. Bhagwant Singh Mann reminded the people that when our great national heroes and martyrs were waging war against the atrocious British regime some traitors were siding with the imperialist forces adding that no one remember such people now.
The Chief Minister said that the dreams of Shaheed-e-Azam still remain unfulfilled as corruption, nepotism and poverty still rule the roost. He said that those who came into power after Britishers plundered the country more mercilessly than the foreigners. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he is peeved to hear when some people say that the rule of Britishers was better than this day adding that this notion needs to be changed.
The Chief Minister also called upon people to rise above the parochial consideration of caste, communalism and creed to make India number one. He said that it will be real tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh and other freedom fighters who had laid their lives at altar of motherland. Bhagwant Singh Mann also called upon youth to come forward and carve out a country of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s dream.
The Chief Minister bemoaned that it is unfortunate that these days some people are raising questions of sacrifice of the martyrs. He said that no one has any right to pose question mark over the contribution of great martyrs for their motherland. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that no one needs NOC of these traitors for the supreme sacrifice made by Shaheed Bhagat Singh at the altar of motherland.
The Chief Minister said that all of us have to make strenuous efforts to realise the dreams of martyrs. He said that it is the need of hour to restore the pristine glory of the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the legendary martyr was not only an individual but an institution adding that we must follow his footsteps for progress of country.
The Chief Minister said that the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh will ever inspire youth to serve the country. He said that apart from emancipating the country from foreign clutches Shaheed Bhagat Singh had also envisioned a corruption and poverty free India. However, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the country is still facing these problems.
The Chief Minister exhorted the youth to take pledge that they will follow footsteps of Shaheed Bhagat Singh to serve the state. He said that all of us should pledge that we will improve the system by living here rather than fleeing away in search of green pastures. Bhagwant Singh Mann assured the people that state government is committed for restoring the pristine glory of Punjab.
The Chief Minister said that following the ideals of Shaheed Bhagat Singh the state government has given more than 36000 jobs to youth of state in a transparent manner. He said that after being sworn in as Chief Minister from this sacred land, his government has replaced the pictures of Chief Minister with those of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr BR Ambedkar in all government offices. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that state of the art schools and hospitals are being opened across the state, zero power bill is there for people along with other pro-people and development oriented initiatives in the state during last 18 months.
The Chief Minister said that for the first time in the history of state, Punjab has received Cash Credit Limit of Rs 37,000 crore for the ensuing paddy season. He said that the state had demanded Rs 42000 crore as CCL from the Union government for the procurement. Bhagwant Singh Mann assured the state government will ensure smooth and hassle free procurement of the grains in the country.
The Chief Minister said that his government is committed for safeguarding the interests of the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he had vehemently raised the issues of state like SYL, Chandigarh and others during the recent meeting of the Northern Zonal Council. He said that in future too every interest of the state will be protected for which his government is already committed.
The Chief Minister said that the earlier leaders of Punjab had backstabbed the people on several issues by giving importance to their own interests over that of state. He said that former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal got plot in Gurgaon, where they have hotel today, for planning the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) river. Bhagwant Singh Mann also said that self proclaimed saviour of Punjab waters and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had presented silver spade to then Prime Minister for ground breaking ceremony of SYL at Kapoori.
The Chief Minister also announced to construct a memorial, library and others at the maternal home of Shaheed Bhagat Singh near Garhshankar. He said that the museum at his native village is also being upgraded for which the work is going on. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is the need of hour to perpetuate the legacy of this iconic martyr.
Earlier Cabinet Minister Anmol Gagan Mann welcomed all the dignitaries on the occasion.
On the occasion Cabinet Ministers Anmol Gagan Mann, Chetan Singh Jauremajra, Balkar Singh, Brahm Shankar Jimpa, Harbhajan Singh ETO, Dr Baljeet Kaur and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Deputy Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai Krishan Rauri, Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku and others were also present.
