CM bats for guarantee of MSP on alternative crops
Says it is the need of hour to safeguard interests of farmers by bringing them out of rut of wheat-paddy circle
Chandigarh, February 19- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh advocated for guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) on alternative crops to safeguard farmers’ interests. Speaking after a meeting with Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, Nityanand Rai, and various farmer unions’ representatives, Singh highlighted the issue of importing pulses from Mozambique and Colombia.
Furthermore, he emphasized that if MSP is provided for this crop, Punjab could lead the country in pulse production, thereby initiating a second green revolution.
Additionally, Singh underscored Punjab’s historical suffering, which resulted from the overexploitation of fertile soil and water resources during the green revolution.

Addressing the potential of cotton and maize adoption, Singh highlighted the importance of MSP and assured marketing for encouraging crop diversification.

Bhagwant Singh vehemently criticized the suspension of internet services in various districts, underscoring its adverse effects on students’ education, especially during crucial examination periods. He emphasized the significant disruption caused by the lack of internet access, particularly during exams, and stressed the importance of addressing this issue promptly.
