Chetan Singh Jouramajra inspects Shahpurkandi Dam Project
Directs to complete construction work at the earliest
Chandigarh/Pathankot, June 19: Today, Punjab Water Resources Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra inspected the under-construction Shahpurkandi Dam and associated power houses. He directed to expedite the construction work to ensure timely completion of the project so that it can accrue its complete benefits in the form of irrigation and power.
Cabinet Minister Reviews Shahpurkandi Dam Progress
The Cabinet Minister, Chief Engineer (Dams Administration) Sher Singh, and other senior officials reviewed the progress of work at the main dam site and the power house facilities under construction in the villages of Kamuyal and Madhopur.
During the visit, officials informed Jouramajra that the dam administration had already initiated the process of filling the reservoir lake in October last year. They also stated that they were supplying irrigation water to low-lying areas by increasing power generation from the Ranjit Sagar Dam Project.
Shahpurkandi Dam Project Nears Completion
The project, conceived in 1999, had faced numerous delays, but officials noted that they had completed about 65% of the work in the last two years alone.

Dam to Boost Punjab’s Power Capacity
Chetan Singh Jouramajra addressed the media, stating that the Shahpurkandi Barrage Dam, upon completion, will significantly increase Punjab’s power capacity. The Shahpurkandi Power Houses are expected to produce 206 MW of electricity, and the Ranjit Sagar Dam Project is expected to produce an additional 600 MW.
Minister Commits to Timely Completion of Shahpurkandi Dam
The Cabinet Minister affirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to completing the Shahpurkandi Dam project on time to meet the state’s irrigation and power requirements.
Earlier, the Cabinet Minister paid tributes at the memorial built in memory of those martyred during the construction of the Ranjit Sagar Dam.
