From Patriots to Protectors: Mann Vows Drug-Free Punjab in Historic Pad Yatra at Chandigarh
Chandigarh, May 3: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday said that the state will lead the Nation. It will make it free from the scourge of drugs, just like the national freedom struggle.
Mann Urges Students to Lead Anti-Drug Fight
The Chief Minister addressed the gathering while participating in the pad Yatra against drugs. He said that Punjab had played a key role in emancipating the country from the clutches of foreign imperialism. He mentioned nationalists like Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha. These nationalists and others had steered the country to the path of freedom. Taking inspiration from them, Bhagwant Singh Mann is leading Punjab. He is committed to freeing the country from the scourge of drugs.
The Chief Minister said that this land has produced generals, patriots, and ace players. These individuals have inspired the youth to excel in the service of the country. He urged students participating in this spirited ‘Padyatra Against Drugs’ to take a firm pledge. They should work to eradicate the drug menace from society. Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized the crucial role of youth in building a drug-free Punjab. He motivated children to become flag bearers in the fight against drugs.”He emphasized the need to nip this social evil in the bud to ensure a brighter future.”
The Chief Minister urged students to report any drug-related approach immediately. They should report to parents or teachers. Students should also desist from glorifying drugs in pop culture.

He advised youngsters to draw inspiration from legends like Milkha Singh. Olympians such as Harmanpreet & Manpreet Singh (hockey) and cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur are excellent role models. They should be preferred over singers promoting drugs through songs. He specifically pointed out that the Punjab Government has intensified its anti-drug campaign. This includes strict enforcement, community engagement, and youth awareness programs. The aim is to dismantle the drug supply chain and rehabilitate victims.
The Chief Minister announced that the state government has launched ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ to combat the menace of drugs and is channelizing the youth’s unbounded energy in a positive direction. He said that it is imperative to save the generations of the state from scourge of drugs. Punjab has already suffered a huge loss of manpower due to this menace. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government has launched this campaign. The active support of the common man was crucial. Together, they aim to wipe out the scourge of drugs from the state.
The Chief Minister said that the state government will take action. It will not sit idly and let smugglers bloom at the cost of the dead bodies and pyres of the drug victims. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government has already snapped the supply line of drugs. Big fishes involved in this heinous crime have been put behind the bars. He said that for the first time, the state government is destroying or confiscating the property acquired illegally by drug smugglers. This action serves as a deterrent for others.
