Gurdaspur/Chandigarh, November 19

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and MP Bhagwant Mann termed the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to repeal the three black agricultural laws as a victory of the farmers and congratulated the farmers of the country on this great victory. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party had already been raising the voice of the farmers from the streets to Parliament and would continue to demand tributes and fair compensation to the martyred farmers during the winter session of Parliament starting from November 29.

Addressing the media at Dera Baba Nanak on Friday, AAP state president Bhagwant Mann said, “The Narendra Modi-led central government has delayed the repeal of the black farm laws and nearly 700 farmers were killed during the one-year struggle. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Modi government are responsible for the martyrdom of the farmers. It would have been better if the Prime Minister had also announced MSP on 23 crops; then the farmers would have happily returned to their fields.”

He further said that the BJP leaders who called the farmers of the country, separatist, Naxalite, traitors; should apologize to the farmers and the Union government should also compensate the families of the martyred farmers. Bhagwant Mann said that the credit for repealing the black laws goes only to the farmers who fought for a long time and got martyred. No political party is entitled to take credit for repealing the laws, he added.

Mann said, “In Punjab, the Congress, Akali Dal Badal and Bharatiya Janata Party have become the objects of hatred for the people. Earlier, Capt Amarinder Singh used to share government with the BJP and now he will share seats. Captain’s alliance with the BJP has now come to light.”

Replying to a question about the AAP’s Chief Minister face for the Punjab elections, Bhagwant Mann said that the party has its own strategy. This time the party will contest the Punjab elections with a Chief Minister face and the name of the Chief Minister’s face will be announced soon, he said.
