The history of Sikh Gurus and Punjabi freedom fighters should be taught in every school of our country: Punjab MP Malvinder Singh Kang
New Delhi/Chandigarh, August 1
Punjab’s Member Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang raised important issues related to the field of education in the parliament. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP, Kang said that the history of Sikh Gurus and Punjabi freedom fighters should be taught in every school of our country. Kang, who represents the historic Lok Sabha seat Sri Anandpur Sahib, said that we teach the history of Babar in school but why are we not teaching about Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who called Babar an oppressor without being intimidated by his military power.
During his address in the parliament on Thursday, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang said that the government should uplift and give special grants to institutes like Punjab University. He said that both the medal winners of Paris Olympics Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh are alumni of PU. This institute has given many prominent leaders to our nation. So, the central government should give special grants to this institute to bring it out of the financial crisis.
Raising the issue of pending funds, AAP MP said that the government should release Punjab’s pending funds without further delay. He said that the BJP government should immediately release the funds related to PM SHRI Scheme (PM Schools for Rising India) and mid-day meal funds.
Kang further said that India has the second highest number of higher education institutes, but in the higher education we rank 33rd in the world. 79% students go to undergraduate institutes, but only 12% go to post graduate institutes and only 0.5-0.6% do Ph.D. Kang said that the government needs to pay attention to higher education institutes and facilities there. He also raised the issue of the students preparing for competitive exams and suggested that the central government should bring special schemes for these students. He said that like the AAP of Delhi and Punjab, Modi government should shoulder their expenses.
Concluding his speech, Kang demanded that the history of Sikh Gurus and Freedom fighters should be compulsory in schools. He said that we are teaching the history of invaders in our country but we are not teaching the history of the people who stood up against those invaders.
