CM ASSAILS UNION GOVERNMENT FOR REJECTING THE TABLEAU OF STATE FOR REPUBLIC DAY PARADE

CM Condemns Centre for Demeaning Punjab’s Freedom Struggle Sacrifices

Chandigarh, December 27 updatepunjab : Slamming the BJP led Union government for rejecting the Tableau of state for the Republic Day parade, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday said that the ‘power mad’ centre government is demeaning and humiliating the enormous sacrifices made by Punjabis in the national freedom struggle.

The Chief Minister criticized the BJP-led Union government for repeating its actions from the previous year by rejecting the tableau once again. According to the Chief Minister, the Centre’s decision to reject the tableau this year is akin to rubbing salt into the wounds of the state. Addressing the media at Punjab Bhawan today, the Chief Minister expressed disappointment, emphasizing the contrast between global devotees paying homage at Sri Fatehgarh to Chotta Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, along with Mata Gujri ji, while the BJP government resorts to such tactics to humiliate Punjab.

He lamented that the state’s glorious heritage of martyrdom and sacrifice, which should have been highlighted in the state’s Tableaus, has been insulted by the Union government’s rejection of these nationalistic and progressive ideas. The Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, categorically stated that such stepmotherly treatment of the state is unacceptable. He highlighted the unfortunate timing of the decision during a period when the entire world is honoring the supreme sacrifice made by Chotta Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri ji for humanity. According to Mann, the Modi government has forgotten the unprecedented sacrifices made by Punjabis in attaining and preserving freedom and safeguarding the country’s borders

The Chief Minister asserted that including the state’s tableaus in the Republic Day Parade would have elevated its prestige, especially with the French President as this year’s chief guest. He criticized the Modi government for deliberately excluding Punjab from this national event for the past two years, claiming that over 90% of selected states for tableaus this year are BJP-ruled, indicating a saffronization trend.

Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the state government had timely submitted three tableau ideas for approval, emphasizing Punjab’s history of sacrifice, Mai Bhago’s role in women empowerment, and the rich heritage of the state. However, the Union government ignored these contributions, mocking the state’s immense role in nation-building.

The Chief Minister deplored the Union government’s mockery of Punjab’s contributions and accused them of conspiring to undermine the state’s sacrifices for the country’s unity, sovereignty, and integrity. He challenged BJP leaders, including Captain Amarinder Singh, Sunil Jakhar, RP Singh, Manjinder Sirsa, and others, to justify the injustice being done to the state by their government.

Bhagwant Singh Mann reiterated that the Modi government’s anti-Punjab stance is evident in its efforts to undermine the state. He expressed surprise that despite the mistreatment, state BJP leaders remain silent on the issue.

The Chief Minister highlighted the Union government’s obstruction of pro-people decisions, such as stalling funds for Aam Aadmi Clinics and Rural Development projects. He accused the Centre of deliberately halting the Mukh Mantri Teerth Yatra Scheme, depriving people of visits to revered places.

Mann criticized the Union government for deliberately stopping trains to religious destinations, accusing them of hindering religious practices. He pledged to address these issues with the Union government, stating that even if the tableaus are excluded from the Republic Day parade, the state will showcase them at events across Punjab on January 26. The Chief Minister accepted the challenge, declaring the actions as disrespectful to Punjab, emphasizing their unacceptability and affirming the state’s commitment to self-reliance, reducing dependence on the Centre.
