The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got a major boost in Punjab as Lok Insaf Party (LIP) stalwart Manwinder Singh Giaspura joined the party here on Tuesday. Looking at the massive growth that the AAP is gaining in Punjab day-by-day, the leader joined the party in the presence of senior leader and AAP Punjab affairs in-charge Jarnail Singh, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, MLA Baljinder Kaur and party’s youth wing co-president Anmol Gagan Mann. Welcoming him into the party, the AAP leaders said that today the people of Punjab are seeing the Aam Aadmi Party as their only ray of hope.
Manwinder Singh Giaspura came to fame with his investigations on the Hondh-Chillar Massacre. On November 2, 1984, a mob of 200-250 persons entered a village in Haryana Rewari District and massacred 35 Sikhs, who were buried in a mass grave. These graves were discovered when Manwinder Singh Giaspura, an engineer with a company at the time, was talking to a delivery boy who told him the story of a deserted Sikh village in Haryana. On January 23, 2011, Giaspura went to that respective village and discovered the mass graves. He immediately posted these pictures on Facebook which got immediate attention in the international press.
In 2019, Giaspura was given the Lok Sabha ticket by Lok Insaaf Party to contest from Fatehgarh Sahib. He got 1,42,000 votes. Ever since then he has stepped back and has been continuously raising his voice for the rights of the Sikh community and the common man. However, not being satisfied with fulfilling what he wanted to in LIP, he resigned from the party before the MC Polls and fielded his candidates in an alliance with the AAP. Now, wanting to serve the people and bring a change in the lives of the people of Punjab, Manwinder Singh Giaspura joined the AAP on Tuesday.
On the occasion, Jarnail Singh said that in the upcoming days, more high profile people are lined up for joining the Aam Aadmi Party. He said that today the people see AAP as the only credible alternative that can change politics in the state and make the lives of the people better, similar to the change brought about in Delhi by AAP‘s national convener and CM Arvind Kejriwal. “With the joining of such personalities, the strength of the AAP is set to increase manifold for the upcoming assembly elections,” he added.
