Chandigarh, May 21 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab dealt a big blow to Shiromani Akali Dal in Bathinda and a Major setback to Bharatiya Janata Party in Ferozepur. On Tuesday, former BJP MLA Sukhpal Singh Nannu joined the AAP and gave the party a boost in Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituency.

Former Akali Dal MLA Darshan Singh Kotfatta left the SAD (Badal) and also joined the AAP, giving the ruling party of Punjab more strength ahead of LS polls.

Sukhpal Singh Nannu, a two-time MLA of BJP (in 2002 and 2007), departed from the party during the 2021 farmers’ protest.

He cited the BJP’s farm laws as anti-farmer and expressed disappointment in the Narendra Modi government for neglecting the farmers and common people of the country.

After joining the AAP, Nannu emphasized the pro-farmer stance of the Mann government. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to uplift the agriculture sector, ensuring that farmers have access to canal water and uninterrupted electricity during the day. Furthermore, he noted the government’s focus on addressing the issues faced by farmers in border areas. This marks a significant shift in attention towards their welfare.

Darshan Singh Kotfatta, retired government servant, has been Akali Dal MLA from Bathinda rural in 2012.

Additionally, he contested the Punjab Assembly elections in 2022 from the Bhucho Mandi (SC) constituency. Moreover, Kotfatta left Shiromani Akali Dal to join the AAP.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann formally inducted both leaders into the AAP clan. He highlighted that the Aam Aadmi Party warmly embraces every pro-Punjab voice.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared that Punjab has finished the Akali Dal, asserting that people have completely lost faith in the party. Now regarded as merely Badal Dal, it’s seen as filled with corrupt and selfish individuals. Mann directed criticism towards the BJP, accusing them of practicing politics centred on hatred and polarisation.

BJP stands no chance in Punjab

Confidently, he stated that the BJP stands no chance in Punjab. He emphasized the unity and brotherhood inherent to Punjabi culture, rejecting any form of hatred.

Mann affirmed that the AAP engages in the politics of productivity, seeking votes based on their two-year track record of achievements.

He highlighted the increasing number of individuals joining the AAP daily. He expressed openness to every voice advocating for Punjab’s interests within the party.
