DGP GAURAV YADAV OVERSEES SECURITY PREPARATIONS FOR UPCOMING GRAND EVENT AT SRI ANANDPUR SAHIB
CHANDIGARH/SRI ANANDPUR SAHIB, November 18: In order to ensure smooth and secure arrangements for the upcoming grand event to commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Ninth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday visited Sri Anandpur Sahib and reviewed the comprehensive security, facilitation, and traffic management arrangements.
“I briefed all supervisory officers, reiterating the need to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, commitment, empathy, and devotion,” said the DGP, while addressing the media. He was accompanied by Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla and Special DGP Intelligence Praveen Sinha.
Organisers have scheduled the grand commemorative events at Sri Anandpur Sahib from November 23 to 25, 2025. They expect these events to draw lakhs of devotees from across the globe.
DGP Outlines High-Tech Security Arrangements
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that they have deployed a large-scale force of over 8,000 police personnel. Senior rank officers are supervising the deployment. The goal is to ensure the safety, orderly movement, and comfort of the expected devotees.
He highlighted that the security arrangements rely heavily on cutting-edge technology. A high-tech control room is being established. It will integrate Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), PTZ, and Facial Recognition Cameras at all entry and exit points of the city. Surveillance drones will complement this setup.
The DGP said that the entire area has been systematically divided into 25 sectors. Each sector has its own sub-control room and help desk. This setup ensures efficient management. For the convenience of the devotees, comprehensive traffic and logistical plans are in place. These include 24×7 shuttle services to all venues and tent cities.He said that officials are also positioning smart barricading systems strategically to smoothen crowd flow and strengthen ground regulation.
Tech-Driven Traffic Plan for Devotees
For seamless traffic management and minimal inconvenience to the devotees, the District Police have partnered with IIT Ropar. They have activated real-time digital mapping of parking zones based on live occupancy and capacity. This is to guide the public and support efficient traffic management. Apart from this, advanced surveillance grids are in place. Intelligent traffic coordination is operational. Robust field supervision mechanisms function to maintain order. These measures facilitate the Sangat arriving from across the nation, he added.
DGP Gaurav Yadav informed that technology-enabled facilitation systems have been established. These systems include dedicated help desks, public convenience facilities, and real-time monitoring dashboards. The goal is to ensure a smooth, safe, and spiritually fulfilling experience for devotees. Comprehensive contingency plans are in place. These include crowd management, recovery vans, and medical services such as Mohalla Clinics and referral hospitals, he added.
Police Deploy Smart Systems, Stress Sensitive Policing
He said that officials now streamline force deployment using QR codes for briefings. The department also deploys lady police officers strategically at heavy footfall and sensitive locations. They similarly deploy specialised civil uniformed personnel. He added that they have integrated data pertaining to snatchers in and around the Ropar district with the facial recognition system. . This creates deterrence. It also helps to pre-empt any untoward incident,” he said.

Later, DGP Gaurav Yadav inaugurated an Auditorium at Ropar Police Lines. He also renovated the GO mess and the Police Station Singh Bhagwantpur in Rupnagar district.
