
16 Years of My Tree Day - SDM Shares Emotional Message
To commemorate the 16th International My Tree Day, a district level plantation event was organized at Senior Secondary School Usmanpur. The 16th International My Tree Day is to be celebrated on the last Sunday on 27th July 2025. “The inspirational plantation drive was inaugurated by Chief Guest Anamjyot Kaur (SDM, Nawanshahr). Ashwani Joshi is the Founder of Go Green International Organization. Lakhbir Singh serves as the District Deputy Education Officer. Principal Sukhjit Kaur joined them in planting a ceremonial sapling. On this occasion, school students, staff, and other dignitaries planted 300 saplings together. They did it in just three minutes. This set an inspiring example for all.”
From Nawanshahr to the World: The Story of My Tree Day
SDM Anamjyot Kaur said that the 16th International My Tree Day is the result of years of dedicated work. The event represents a culmination of 15 years of hard work. This achievement required perseverance. It is also due to the dedication of environment lovers. This day emotionally inspires to connect every person with trees.
Ankush Nijhawan, an officer of Go Green International Organization, said that this day started in 2010. It was initiated on the last Sunday of July by Ashwani Joshi, a marine engineer from Nawanshahr, with farsighted thinking. As people understand the need of the environment, this day is now celebrated with full emotion. It takes place on the last Sunday of July all over the world. This is a matter of pride for Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district as well as the whole of India.
On this occasion, Bollywood actress and GGIO supporter Jyoti Arora from Nawanshahr specially participated. In the program, chief guest SDM Anamjyot Kaur, GGIO founder Ashwani Joshi, and District Education Officer Lakhbir Singh were honored with a memento. School principal Sukhjeet Kaur and Chirag Lakhotra of the Forest Department were honored with a certificate.
Other dignitaries included social worker Vasudev Pardesi, Bahadur Chand Arora, Forest Officer Narendra Chauhan and Chirag Lakhotra, Usman Par Senior Secondary School staff and residents of nearby villages also participated in the tree plantation.
