Dalit sisters kidnapped, murdered in Lakhimpur Kheri: NCSC asks UP CS, DGP to submit action taken report
CHANDIGARH, September 15
Taking strong notice of the incident wherein two minor Dalit sisters were found hanging from a tree after being kidnapped by three men in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), on the orders of its Chairman Vijay Sampla, issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government officials on Thursday and asked them to submit an immediate action taken report.
As per the information received by the NCSC from a news story published in an e-newspaper on September 14, 2022, the siblings aged 15 and 17 were kidnapped by three men from outside of their house, around 2 pm on Wednesday. Though the victims’ mother tried to chase the men, the accused were successful in abducting the girls on motorcycle. However, just two hours after their kidnapping, the bodies of the minor girls were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field in the village when locals informed the police.
Meanwhile, the Commission asked the Chief Secretary (Uttar Pradesh government), the Director General of Police (DGP-UP Police), the District Magistrate (Lakhimpur Kheri district) and the Superintendent of Police (Lakhimpur Kheri district), to investigate the matter and to submit the action taken report, immediately, through post or email, based on the facts and information on the action taken on the allegation/matter.
Sampla cautioned the officers that if action taken report is not received within the stipulated time, then Commission might exercise the powers of the civil court conferred on it under article 338 of the Constitution of India and issue a summon for personal appearance before the commission in Delhi.
