something new. Everyone knows about the struggle of Punjabi’s against the agricultural law. Even the government of the country had to bow down before them. Now a new wave of change has started rising in Punjab. Its effects will be seen in the country in the coming time. Punjab is the first state in India where political nepotism has started to be practiced. The people of Punjab have started rejecting nepotism.
Punjab’s Revolt Against Political Nepotism
Nepotism has always been dominant in Punjab politics. This includes the regional party of Punjab, Akali Dal, and Congress. Nepotism has always flourished in them. Now, the people of Punjab are so unhappy with this nepotism that they have started teaching them a lesson. Punjabi’s always keep experiencing new things. The biggest reason for this is that Punjabi’s think that the future of Punjab will change in the coming times. The future of their children and their family will be better. With this hope, they keep on experiencing new things.
Agriculture, Globalization, and Family-Driven Politics
Punjab is an agricultural state. Punjab has contributed a lot to the country’s green revolution. Globalization has affected small farming.Open trade has reduced the importance of small farming. Big industrialists want to take over agriculture, but Punjab is the only state where farmers are fighting against it. Now another battle has also started in Punjab. Familyism has been dominant in the politics of Punjab. If a person in the family is an MLA, he wants his son to become a Member of Parliament. Alternatively, he wants his wife to take on that role. If someone is an MP, then he wants a member of his family to become an MLA. If someone is an MLA, then he wants his wife to become a counselor while his son becomes a councilor. This politics has been going on in Punjab for a long time.
Punjab Rejects Politicians’ Family Tactics
Leaders often adopt new tactics to get tickets for their family members during elections. They make the public feel that the party has given tickets to their family. The party gives tickets only to the winning candidate, so the public understands this. The party gives tickets to their family members. But now the people of Punjab have understood this very well. For this reason, leaders can adopt any new tactic to promote their family. This is the reason why workers who work hard day and night do not get tickets. Meanwhile, leaders are successful in getting tickets for their family members.
Punjab By-elections Reject Nepotism
By-elections were held in Punjab in the recent past, and in these by-elections, people have rejected nepotism. Many politicians fielded their wives in the elections, but the people rejected them. But now the people of Punjab have started rejecting such leaders. After Punjab Pradesh Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring won the Lok Sabha elections, the Gidderwaha assembly seat fell vacant. In the by-election, Raja Warring fielded his wife Amrita Warring but she lost the election for this seat. The Dera Baba Nanak assembly seat was vacant in Punjab. This happened because former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh went to the Lok Sabha. From there, he fielded his wife Jatinder Kaur Randhawa, who also lost the election.
The reason is clear. When Lok Sabha elections are held, the MLAs resign to try their luck in the Lok Sabha. The public elects them to the Lok Sabha. Still, as soon as elections are held for the vacant seats, these politicians field their wives in the election. But the people of Punjab have now understood their strategy. They know that if the politicians’ wives win, the elected Lok Sabha members will contest for the MLA post. This will happen in the 2027 assembly elections. If they become MLAs, they will contest elections again. Their aim will be to send their family members to the Lok Sabha. This cycle will continue. The people of Punjab have sent a message. They told both of these politicians that nepotism will no longer be effective.
Punjab Rejects Family Politics in Local Elections
The people of Punjab have now given a message to the leaders in the local body elections. In these elections, former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu had a strategy. He fielded his wife Mamta Ashu in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections. However, she lost the election. Similarly, MLA Ashok Parashar of the Aam Aadmi Party fielded his wife Meenu Parashar. At the same time, MLA Gurpreet Singh Gogi fielded his wife Dr. Sukhchain Kaur Kaur. They both lost the election. Apart from this, a former MLA from Jalandhar, Seetal Angural, also fielded his brother in the elections. The public rejected him. No leader was successful in making his family member win the election.
The people of Punjab have now also sent a message to the politicians in the local body elections. In these elections, a former minister nominated his wife, while two current MLAs nominated their wives. Additionally, a former MLA nominated his brother for the election. But, the people rejected all of them. No leader was capable of getting their family member elected.
Punjab Leads the Charge Against Nepotism
The reason is clear: people have now stood up against nepotism, and it has started from Punjab. Punjabi’s have made it clear that nepotism will no longer work in politics. This is their message to politicians in the upcoming elections.
“Punjabi’s Reject Nepotism in Politics
In Punjab, it was observed that leaders in Akali Dal often placed family members in the election. Congress has done the same. Now, 2 MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party fielded their wives in the election, but people rejected nepotism. Nepotism had completely established its roots in politics in Punjab. But now, people have started hollowing out these roots. Now, Punjabi’s have taken up the task of hollowing out these roots. They have sent a message to the whole country. The time has come to start this in the new year. Throw out the roots of nepotism.
