VB arrests private person for demanding Rs one lakh bribe

Chandigarh February 19  The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday has arrested a private person Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Khalwara colony, Phagwara, Kapurthala district for demanding a bribe of Rs one lakh in the name of Tehsildar and manager Fard Kendar Phagwara.

        An official spokesperson of the state VB disclosed today that they had registered this case against the said private person based on an online complaint lodged by Manjit Singh, a resident of village Madhopur in tehsil Phagwara, on the Chief Minister’s anti-corruption action line.

          He further added that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that the above said accused has demanded an illegal gratification of Rs one lakh in a revenue case regarding mutation of ancestral land as his wife has submitted an application to the Tehsildar who has marked it to the concerned Patwari. The accused has assured the complainant to accomplish the task and told him that the Tehsildar and Fard Kendar manager has demanded Rs one lakh as a bribe in this regard. The complainant has also made recording of demand raised by the above said accused while demanding money and submitted to the VB as an evidence.

          In this regard the VB range Jalandhar has investigated the complaint and found the allegations made by the complainant as true and correct.Based on this report, the VB police station in the Jalandhar range has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the aforementioned accused and has arrested them. They will produce the accused in the competent court tomorrow.. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
