A high-level review meeting on the redevelopment of Chandigarh Railway Station was convened today under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways, Shri Ravneet Singh “Bittu”
New Delhi, 24 June 2025: A high-level reviewmeeting on the redevelopment of Chandigarh Railway Station took place today. Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh “Bittu”, chaired the meeting. The meeting included senior officials. both were from the Ministry of Railways, Railway Board, Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), and Northern Railway. They aimed to assess project progress. They also intended to chart the way forward for this landmark infrastructure initiative.
Reviews Chandigarh Railway Station Redevelopment Progress
Chairing the meeting, Ravneet Singh instructed the officials to speed up the pending works. He urged them to minimise the inconvenience caused to the general public during rush hours. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is executing the redevelopment of Chandigarh Railway Station. They are doing this under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) model. The overall project cost is 462 Crores. The project aims to transform the station into a modern, world-class multimodal transit hub serving the Chandigarh Tricity region. Total Development Area of the station is 1,92,248 sq. m with Built-up Area: 27,383 sq. m and Revised Completion Date is October 2025 with Physical Progress of 81%.
Chandigarh Railway Station to Get Major Upgrade with Modern Facilities
Speaking on the salient features of the station building, S. Ravneet Singh said that there will be new G+3 station buildings on both Chandigarh and Panchkula sides (8,367 sq. m each), improving accessibility and passenger movement. A 72m wide, 80m long covered concourse for seamless, weather-protected transit across platforms and two 12m wide FOBs to streamline inter-platform movement. Expanded parking area of 24,515 sq. m will be given with integrated traffic flow designs for both city sides. The station will have 30 lifts and 10 escalators for barrier-free movement, Enhanced waiting areas (1,180 sq. m concourse with 1,050 seats), Food courts, retail spaces, retiring rooms, and co-working spaces, Paid lounges and other commuter-focused amenities, 4,000+ sq. m of commercial area, including kiosks, food outlets, and shopping spaces. The upgraded Chandigarh Railway Station is designed to cater to a projected daily footfall of over 1 lakh passengers by 2061.

Negi (Director, Railway Board), among others.
