Centre Clarifies: No Change Proposed in Chandigarh’s Governance
Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India clarified that the proposal to simplify the law-making process for the Union Territory of Chandigarh is still under consideration and no final decision has been made so far. Officials emphasised that the proposal does not seek to alter Chandigarh’s existing governance or administrative structure, nor does it intend to change the traditional arrangements between Chandigarh and the States of Punjab and Haryana.
The government stated that any decision will be taken only after wider consultations with all stakeholders, ensuring that the interests of Chandigarh remain fully protected. It further assured that there is no need for concern, as the Centre has no intention of introducing any such Bill during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
