
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker extends heartfelt greetings to the Pope Robert Francis Prevost for his elevation as Pope of the Roman Catholic Church
Chandigarh, June 4, 2025: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan extended heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Robert Francis Prevost on becoming the new Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. This marks a historic moment as he is the first American to hold the papal office.
Sandhwan praised Pope Prevost’s lifelong dedication to faith, service, and humanity, calling it an inspiration to millions across the world. He expressed confidence that the Pope’s leadership will bring renewed hope, unity, and compassion to people of all faiths.

He added that this greeting represents not just a personal message but a heartfelt prayer of all Punjabis and Sikhs. Sandhwan drew parallels with Sikh philosophy. He emphasized that the Sikh faith’s core values of equality, unity, and inclusivity mirror the universal message of love. These values also reflect harmony.
Furthermore, Speaker emphasized that Sri Guru Granth Sahib, is the holy Guru of Sikhism, regarded by Sikhs as the final, sovereign and eternal immortal Guru following the lineage of the ten human gurus of the sikh religion. In Sri Guru Granth Sahib, it is mentioned that “ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਕਹਹੁ ਮਤ ਝੂਠੇ ਝੂਠਾ ਜੋ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥ ॥੧॥” and its transliteration is “Bed Kateb kahhu mat jhutha jhutha jo na bicharai”. It means “The shabad advises against dismissing any religious texts as false, highlighting the importance of thoughtful contemplation over blind rejection.”
Sandhwan concluded his remarks with a prayer for wisdom and divine grace in Pope Prevost’s tenure. He leads the Catholic Church into a new era of global faith and service.
