The Secretary (Education, Technical Education, and IT) Dr. Abhishek Jain, IAS visited IIIT Una as
the Chief Guest on the occasion of First Alumni meet of the Institute. On this occasion Shri Raghav
Sharma, IAS (The DC Una), Dr. Arushi Jain (Policy Director Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian
School of Business, Mohali) and Sh. Karthik Sundararaman (Chief Strategy Officer, Arya.ag) have graced
the occasion as the Guests of Honour.
Dr. Abhishek Jain visited the campus and congratulated the Institute for raising such a state-of-the
infrastructure within a short duration of 05 years out of which 02 years were less productive due to
Corona. Dr. Jain encouraged the institute to develop technologies to improve life of a common man and
create start-up culture. Dr. Jain urged the Alumni’s of the institute to keep connected to the institute and
give back to the society.
IIIT Una on this occasion presented a proposal to set up technology park to create job opportunities and
promote technology-led start-ups in the state. The tech park has been envisioned to have three facilities,
viz., Big Data Repository and Computational Facility for Artificial Intelligence, Technology Innovation
Centre, and Centre for Design, Development, and Fabrication.
The Big Data Repository and Computational Facility for Artificial Intelligence will be a centralized
infrastructure for big data storage and computation required for complex Artificial Intelligence-based
projects. The state will create exclusive State Specific Big Data repositories for AI-based product
development. The facility will host high-performance computing clusters, graphic processing clusters, and
data storage clusters. The educational institutes offering AI/ML program, AI-based start-ups, researchers,
and government/private organizations can use this facility to create AI-culture in the state.
The Technology Innovation Centre aims to provide an ecosystem for technology-based start-ups, basic
hardware and software tools required for prototype development, and support for Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) and commercialization of prototypes. The centre will focus on smart agriculture,
nanotechnology, and digital healthcare. The centre will provide hardware and software as services,
product development support, and product IPR and commercialization support. The potential users are
start-ups, educational/research institutions, researchers, government/private entities, and SMEs.
The centre for Design, Development, and Fabrication will provide a special platform for the cooperative,
consortium-driven integration of cutting-edge technologies in the fields of product design, development,
and fabrication. The centre will engage in product development and knowledge transfer efforts through
publications, instruction, training, and continual interactions with the government and other public
institutions. The centre will focus on 3D-printing based design and development, toys industry
empowerment, semiconductor fabrication, PCB designing, antenna fabrication and testing, and
manufacturing, and testing facility for 5G and beyond. The potential users are manufacturing industries,
start-ups, research centres (government/private), educational institutions, and hobbyists.
The Institute has also expressed its interest to offer skill-oriented courses in Skill Development centre,
Haroli, such as Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) [Major in website Designing/App
Development], B.Sc. (Electronics) [Major in IoT], B.Sc. (Mathematics) [Major in AI/ML], B.Sc.
Bioinformatics [Major in Drug Discovery], and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) [Major in
ICT/Healthcare Administration] for the local students subject to the approval of the state government and
the BoG of the Institute.
