Chandigarh, March 10 – Haryana has witnessed a significant reduction in incidents of crime against women. There was a sharp decline of 19.6% in 2024. A total of 9,488 cases were registered. This is compared to 11,814 cases in 2023. This marks a noteworthy decrease in crimes affecting women. Chief Minister Sh Nayab Singh Saini informed this. He was responding to a question during the ongoing budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha today.

Crime Rates Decline in 2024: CM Highlights Significant Reductions

Similarly, there was a substantial decrease of 23.3% in rape cases, in year 2024 as compared to 2023.  In addition, gang rape incidents saw a 19.8% decline. The Chief Minister also highlighted that the number of murder cases in 2024 fell to 966, a reduction of 8.9% from the 1,061 cases in 2023. Similarly, cases under the SC/ST Act saw a notable drop of 30.7%, from 1,514 cases in 2023 to 1,049 in 2024. The Chief Minister attributed this overall reduction in crime rates to the enhanced presence of police personnel. Vigilant monitoring and relentless efforts by law enforcement agencies also played a crucial role in ensuring public safety and security.

Haryana Crime Report (2019-2024): 119,011 FIRs, High Case Resolution Rates

Between 2019 and December 2024, authorities lodged a total of 119,011 FIRs in Haryana.These FIRs encompassed a range of crimes including murder, rape, and gang rape. They also included kidnapping, robbery, loot, crimes against women, and offenses targeting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.From 2019 to 2024, authorities registered 6,338 murder cases and solved 95.23% of them, arresting 12,966 accused. They also solved 97.67% of the 22,994 kidnapping cases recorded during the same period. Over the past five years, they registered 2,594 robbery cases and solved 2,491 (96.02%). Out of 68,030 total cases, they resolved 98.20%. Additionally, they worked out 97.15% of the 7,779 cases registered under the SC/ST Act during this period.

The government has implemented a range of measures to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, including traders. These initiatives increase police manpower to match the growing population, create specialized units to tackle heinous and emerging crimes, and modernize the police force with the latest technology, training, and resources to combat crimes such as murder, violence, crimes against women, and property-related offenses.
