CM Defends Pension Cuts in Haryana Assembly Debate
The Chief Minister responded to questions raised by the Opposition. This occurred during the discussion on the Governor’s address. It took place during the budget session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly today.
Nayab Singh Saini stated that the pension of ineligible people was cut. This decision was based on information given by the head of the family in the Parivar Pehchan Patra. But the Opposition leaders asked why the pension of people was revoked. He said the objective of the government is to give benefits to as many people as possible. Congress ; CM Promises Probe into Wrongful BPL Card Issuance
The Chief Minister said that Opposition leaders claim the government is issuing more BPL cards. He assured that authorities will investigate any wrongly issued BPL card in the state. He said that during the Congress regime, the business of giving recommendations was prevalent. Officials issued BPL cards to the rich, but they excluded the poor from the BPL category.
He said in the last 10 years, there has been a change in how the state government estimates the number of families below the poverty line. The central government had a rule. No more than 21 per cent of the population of any state could be above the below poverty line. The state governments had the right to mark families below this benchmark based on 5 criteria. They could declare them BPL and give them yellow ration cards. Another criteria in this was that the annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 1.20 lakh. The poor have now got freedom from the population limit criteria and income limit criteria of Rs 1.20 lakh in BPL category.
The Chief Minister said for the first time, the government included all the families with annual income up to Rs 1.80 lakh in BPL category. Due to this, about 32 lakh families with annual income of Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh were included in the BPL list. These poor families got a chance to avail government benefits for the first time.
