Chandigarh, September 27 –In a significant step towards strengthening urban cleanliness initiatives, a Clean City Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Karnal in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini. The ceremony, held at the District Secretariat Auditorium on Saturday, marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability across urban areas of the state. On this occasion, Karnal Municipal Corporation entered into an MoU with five municipal bodies, reinforcing the government’s commitment to achieving the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) in a structured and result-oriented manner. Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Manohar Lal joined the event from Sonipat via video conferencing and highlighted the importance of the Clean City Partnership with various municipal bodies across the country.
On this occasion, Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that Karnal secured the third position in the country in the recent cleanliness survey. Now, Karnal will mentor five cities of the state namely Siwan and Rajound (Kaithal), Ismailabad (Kurukshetra), Narnaund (Hisar), and Kalanwali (Sirsa) on cleanliness. He added that other towns and cities will also be developed as clean, green, and beautiful by fulfilling the set cleanliness parameters.

The Chief Minister said that a Cleanliness competition will also be organised among cities within Haryana. He said that a ranking system has been created for cities in the state, along with certain parameters. Continuous work is being carried out in municipal corporations, municipal councils, and municipal committees to maintain cleanliness so that Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi’s vision of a clean, green, and beautiful state can be realized..

Later, while interacting with the mediapersons, the Chief Minister said that cities that performed well in the Swachhata rankings have each adopted five other cities to help them become clean in the future. Along with Karnal, Sonipat also secured a good rank in the previous cleanliness survey. Today, Sonipat has adopted Hodal, Narnaul, Pataudi Mandi, Farukhnagar, and Kundli. He emphasized that maintaining cleanliness can help prevent many diseases, and it is everyone’s collective responsibility to make the Swachhata Abhiyan, launched under the able leadership of the Prime Minister, a huge success.
*Paddy procurement continues smoothly*
In response to a question, the Chief Minister said that paddy procurement is underway smoothly. Efforts are being made to install electronic weighing scales in the markets (mandis). The district administration has appointed officers to oversee procurement arrangements and ensure that paddy is purchased properly in the mandis, he added.
Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that during the Congress government, crop loss compensation was rarely provided, and farmers had to wait endlessly, sometimes receiving cheques for just one or two rupees. In contrast, his government has ensured timely payment for crop loss. This year too, farmers who have registered on the compensation portal will receive compensation promptly after verification.
