SAS Nagar (Mohali), March 6: The Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann took action. He implemented measures to make Sahibzada Ajit Nagar (Mohali) safer. On Thursday, he inaugurated Phase-I of the City Surveillance and Traffic Management. This was developed at a cost of Rs 21.60 crore.

The Chief Minister said that this is a significant step towards enhancing urban surveillance and traffic management. He mentioned that this state-of-the-art system aims to improve public safety. It also curbs traffic violations. The system ensures effective law enforcement through advanced AI-based surveillance and traffic monitoring systems. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the government developed this system at a total cost of Rs 21.60 crore in Sector-79, Mohali. It integrates the ICCC (Integrated Command and Control Center) with 351 high-resolution CCTV cameras. These cameras are operational at 17 critical junctions across Mohali.

The Chief Minister said that this system is designed to streamline traffic management. It also aims to enhance public security and support law enforcement efforts. He said that this system includes 175 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. It also has 50 Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) cameras and 92 Bullet Cameras for general surveillance. Additionally, there are 18 PTZ (Pan, Tilt, and Zoom) Cameras for enhanced monitoring. Speed Violation Detection systems are present at two key locations, equipped with 16 cameras. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that key feature of this initiative is the automated e-challan system, seamlessly integrated with NIC’s VAHAN and SARATHI databases.

Punjab to Expand E-Challan System, Boosting Traffic Enforcement in Phase 2

The Chief Minister said that this enables automatic generation of e-challans for violations such as red-light jumping and overspeeding. It also covers triple riding, wrong-side driving, helmet-less riding, and stop line/zebra crossing violations. He said that on an average, the system generates between 5,000 to 6,000 challans per day, significantly improving traffic enforcement and compliance. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that Phase 1 was successfully installed. Now, the Punjab Government is planning Phase 2 of the project. This phase will cover additional locations across the district. It will significantly enhance the city’s surveillance network. The Chief Minister said the government will equip strategic locations with advanced CCTV surveillance. Major traffic junctions will feature AI-driven Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS) and Vehicle Actuated Control (VAC). He added that Smart Traffic Lights will adapt to real-time traffic flow, optimizing vehicle movement and reducing congestion. Bhagwant Singh Mann further said the government will create unified traffic corridors to ensure smoother transit across Mohali, Kharar, Zirakpur, and Derabassi. The Chief Minister said that the ICCC project represents a major milestone in urban security and smart traffic management. He said that given Mohali’s rapid expansion as a commercial, IT and residential hub, this initiative will play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, ensuring seamless traffic flow and enhancing public safety. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Punjab government is leveraging cutting-edge technology to build safer cities. They aim to create smarter cities. They are setting new benchmarks in urban governance and security.
