Advanced Cardiac Centre at PGIMER beams a live cardiac procedure to the National Conference in Mumbai.
The Advanced Cardiac Centre (ACC) of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, marked another significant milestone. They successfully broadcasted a complex live case of post-cardiac surgery. The case was a bypass graft angioplasty. The prestigious National Interventional Council (NIC 2025) received the case. The NIC took place in Mumbai from June 26–29, 2025. A skilled team from the Department of Cardiology, ACC PGIMER, performed the live procedure on June 28, 2025, under the expert supervision and guidance of Professor (Dr.) Rajesh Vijayvergiya. The team transmitted the case live from PGIMER’s state-of-the-art catheterisation laboratory. It reached an audience of national and international experts. These experts were attending the scientific meeting.
Graft Angioplasty ; “World-Class Cardiac Care Showcased in Live Procedure”
The patient was an elderly male. He had undergone coronary bypass surgery 15 years back. Four years ago, he also had coronary angioplasty of one of the blocked bypass grafts. He presented with chest pain due to blockage of a previously implanted stent and new blockages of other bypass grafts. “During the live case broadcast, the team successfully treated two bypass grafts using advanced interventional strategies.”These included intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Such techniques are available at only a select few centres in India. “These are technically demanding procedures requiring specialized skills and precision.
It reflects our ongoing commitment to offering world-class cardiac care at an affordable cost,” stated Prof. Vijayvergiya. The live case stimulated an engaging panel discussion. Eminent national and international cardiologists shared insights on lesion complexity. They also discussed tool selection and alternative treatment strategies. The session provided a valuable educational platform, highlighting the evolving best practices in interventional cardiology.
“These live case demonstrations are regularly broadcast from the department of Cardiology, PGIMER. They are presented to major scientific forums nationally and internationally. These broadcasts serve as powerful tools for professional development,” said Prof. Vijayvergiya. “They help interventional cardiologists stay updated with novel and evidence-based techniques, fostering continuous improvement in patient care.”
