Population Based Cancer Registries of Punjab and Chandigarh releasing its Third report

Population Based Cancer Registry- A joint collaboration of PGIMER and Tata Memorial Centre with cooperation from Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab and Health Department, UT Chandigarh will release its third report for the year 2015-2016 for the regions of Chandigarh, SAS Nagar, Sangrur and Mansa on 28th Nov. 2020 at 4.30pm.

According to WHO, India had an estimated 1.16 million new cancer cases in 2018 which shows that one in 10 Indians will develop cancer during their lifetime and one in 15 will die of the disease. Cancer patterns in India are dominated by a high burden of tobacco-related head and neck cancers, particularly oral cancer, in men whereas breast and cervical cancer in women; are associated with lower socioeconomic status.

The report release programme will be attended by Ms Vini Mahajan, Chief Secretary, Punjab and Shri Hussan Lal, IAS Principal & Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Punjab along with Ms Amandeep Kaur kang, DHS Chandigarh and Dr Manjit Singh , DHS, Punjab in the presence of Prof Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER and other key officials .Amidst the Covid 19 situation most of the participants will use the video link to be a part of the programme virtually.

PBCR report will underline the actual burden of cancer including its incidence, cancer related deaths and common cancers identified in the 4 PBCRs i.e Chandigarh, SAS Nagar, Sangrur and Mansa.

Cancer registries are the first step in cancer control. The report will give recommendations for cancer control programs to be organized in these regions.
