Padma Shri Awardee Ajeet Bajaj and Deeya Bajaj to Ignite Young Minds
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, is all set to formally inaugurate its New Academic Session 2026 tomorrow, January 7, 2026, at 4:00 PM, at the NINE Auditorium, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The ceremony will herald the beginning of another transformative academic year marked by rigorous training, cutting-edge research, and a steadfast commitment to patient-centric healthcare at one of India’s foremost institutions of national importance.
Underscoring the significance of the occasion, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, stated, “The inaugural programme signifies far more than the beginning of a new academic session. It reflects PGIMER’s enduring legacy of excellence in medical education, clinical service, and scientific inquiry, while welcoming a new generation of aspiring healthcare professionals and reaffirming our responsibility to nurture compassionate, skilled, and globally competent leaders who will serve society with integrity, empathy, and purpose.”
Adding exceptional inspiration to the event, the prestigious inauguration ceremony will be graced by Shri Ajeet Bajaj, Padma Shri Awardee, celebrated mountaineer, adventurer, and motivational icon, who has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest. He will be accompanied by Ms. Deeya Bajaj, an accomplished mountaineer, as the Guest of Honour. Together, they hold the rare and remarkable distinction of being the first Asian father–daughter duo to complete the Seven Summits, including the ascent of Mount Everest—a feat that stands as a powerful testament to courage, discipline, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Their presence at PGIMER is expected to resonate deeply with the incoming students, as the values embodied by their extraordinary achievements closely mirror the ethos of PGIMER—academic rigour, perseverance, teamwork, and an unyielding commitment to excellence in the face of challenges.
A key highlight of the programme will be the Inaugural Address by Shri Ajeet Bajaj and Ms. Deeya Bajaj, where they will share compelling insights from their journeys of endurance, leadership, and goal-setting. Drawing meaningful parallels between high-altitude mountaineering and the demanding, purpose-driven path of medical education and research, their address is expected to leave a lasting impression on the young medical professionals embarking on this transformative journey.
Another poignant moment of the ceremony will be the Pin-up Ceremony, symbolising the formal induction of new students into PGIMER’s distinguished academic fraternity—an initiation into a tradition of excellence, service, and responsibility that the Institute has upheld for decades.
The inauguration of the New Academic Session 2026 once again reaffirms PGIMER Chandigarh’s unwavering commitment to shaping future-ready medical professionals, advancing cutting-edge research, and strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem through excellence in education, innovation, and compassionate care.
