Mayor launches “Hamare Parks Hamari Pehchaan” campaign under Environment week

Chandigarh, June 7:- Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh today launched ‘Hamare Parks, Hamari Pehchaan’ campaign in a bid to clean all the neighborhood parks in city by involving area councilors and local citizens in their respective areas.

The Mayor accompanied by Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Babla, area councilor of ward No. 10, launched the campaign at a park in sector 27 by cleaning the footpaths, walking tracks, children play area and corners of the park.

Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner accompanied by Mrs. Anju Katyal, area councilor ward No. 22 cleaned Terraced Garden, Sector 33 alongwith senior citizens and local residents. During the cleaning, the Commissioner directed the concerned engineers to plug the illegal openings of storm water disposal pipes of different properties at the garden and issue challan against the violators.

Similarly, all the councilors of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh participated in the cleaning of neighbourhood parks in their respective wards. All the councilors praised the efforts of gardeners for maintaining cleanliness in the parks and thanked the gardeners with giving flower buds besides handing them over safety equipments for cleaning the parks.

While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that parks are the hallmark of any city and here in the open air, everyone feels like sitting comfortably for moments.  All that is needed is to groom them by joining hands together not to throw waste inside the park areas instead put it in the provided dustbins.

She said that the Municipal Corporation has developed beautiful parks by providing walking tracks, footpaths, musical fountains, LED lights, huts, benches, children play equipments besides providing open air gyms keeping in view the health of the local residents. Only with the collective efforts of all the citizens the neighbourhood parks be maintained beautifully.

The Mayor said that the development, standard of living and thinking of citizens is detected in a city through visiting their parks. The lush green and clean parks express the beauty of every city and the comfort in life itself. The park does not belong to any one age, but here childhood also flourishes and blossoms among the chaupals of the elderly, added the Mayor.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC said that people must have blamed the system many times for poor upkeep of the parks but don’t blame anyone this time and let us take the initative as an aware citizen to beautify the park of your neighbourhood.

She said that residents of Chandigarh are very fortunate from this point of view that there are well maintained 1800 neighbourhood parks, big parks and green belts in all the sectors but it needs to be improve further with the help of local residents only by avoiding littering at the parks and stop people to litter inside the parks.
