GGDSD College Hosts Technical Workshop on “Data Analytics using Excel and Power BI”
Chandigarh, September 27, 2025 – The Postgraduate Department of Computer Science and Applications successfully organized a technical hands-on workshop on “Data Analytics using Excel and Power BI” on 27th September, 2025 under the PM USHA scheme. The workshop equips participants with practical skills in data handling, visualization, and analytical decision-making, teaching them using two of the most widely used tools in industry today.
Dr. Akashdeep Sharma, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh, conducted the session . With over 14 years of experience in teaching and research, Dr. Sharma possesses specialized expertise in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Video Analytics, Soft Computing, and Language Models. He has been the principal investigator and co-investigator of several prestigious research projects. These projects were funded by AICTE, MeitY, and international collaborators. They focus on areas such as Generative AI, UAV-based monitoring systems, smart surveillance, and AI in precision agriculture.
Data Analytics : Hands-On Workshop on Data Cleaning, Dashboards & Excel Insights
In his session, the resource person guided participants through step-by-step exercises on data cleaning. Participants also learned about creating dashboards. He showed them how to generate insights using Excel and Power BI. Through his lecture, the participants gained an interactive learning experience on financial models using Excel. They shared that the session helped them understand how to transform raw data into meaningful insights through visualization and analysis. The hands-on approach allowed students to actively practice concepts and gain confidence in applying them to real-world datasets.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Vice-Principal, GGDSD College, with a green welcome to the speaker, along with Dr. Rina, Convenor of the event. Dr. Ashutosh, emphasized the growing importance of data-driven decision-making and encouraged students to develop competencies in analytics.
Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal of GGDSD College, acknowledged the valuable time spared by the speaker. He valued the insights delivered. Dr. Sharma also appreciated the efforts of Organizing Secretaries Dr. Paramjit Singh and Dr. Archana Goyal for organizing such an interactive and engaging session.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rina, Head of the Department. She recognized the efforts of the resource person, participants, and the organizing team. Their efforts made the workshop a success.
