I thank the Honorable Supreme Court, which has kept democracy alive.”

Commitment to Development

He further stated that upon formally assuming the post of Mayor today, his administration will initiate development in every area of the entire Chandigarh city. “We will soon pass the promises made to the city residents in the Municipal Corporation meeting and deliver their benefits to them. Our goal is to elevate Chandigarh to the number 1 position in the country, ensuring that the city residents do not encounter any problems.”

Accusations Against BJP

Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman and co-in-charge AAP Chandigarh Dr. SS Ahluwalia accuses BJP of undermining democracy during the elections of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.

He asserts that BJP’s actions will not be forgiven by the city’s residents. According to him, in 2021, the residents of Chandigarh overwhelmingly voted for the Aam Aadmi Party, resulting in the highest number of AAP councilors. However, despite this, BJP consistently appointed its mayor against the residents’ wishes.

When AAP and Congress jointly nominated their candidates, BJP’s refusal to accept defeat became evident. They invalidated 8 votes of Kuldeep Kumar on January 30 and fraudulently installed their preferred mayor. The Honorable Supreme Court termed it as a murder of democracy and declared Kuldeep Kumar as Mayor.
