VB NABS ASI WHILE ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS 5K

  • Accused Police Official already took Rs 5000 for settling a complaint

Chandigarh, August 21:

          Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday nabbed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Jagroop Singh, posted at Police Station Talwandi Sabo while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from Lakhvir Singh resident of Nasibpura village in Bathinda district.

          Disclosed this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that Lakhvir Singh lodged a complaint that a complaint had been filed against his wife and son by some women of the same village at Police Station Talwandi Sabo and the inquiry was being conducted by the accused ASI. The complainant alleged that ASI Jagroop Singh demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to settle the complaint and he already took Rs 5000 from him.

          After preliminary investigation of the complaint, the spokesperson said, a team of VB laid a trap and arrested the accused police official while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant in the presence of official witnesses.

          In this regard, an FIR has been registered against ASI Jagroop Singh under Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station VB, Bathinda Range.
