
14,936 PEOPLE EVACUATED FROM FLOOD-HIT AREAS SO FAR: HARDEEP SINGH MUNDIAN
Chandigarh, August 31: Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said on Sunday that authorities have evacuated 14,936 people from flood-hit areas across the state and moved them to safer places
He said the entire state machinery along with NDRF, SDRF, Army and Punjab Police personnel are working tirelessly round-the-clock to safeguard lives and property. Giving district-wise details, the Cabinet Minister said rescue teams have rescued 1,700 people in Amritsar There have been 25 rescues in Barnala, 1599 in Fazilka, and 3265 in Ferozepur. Rescue teams have rescued 5,456 people in Gurdaspur. They have also rescued 1,052 in Hoshiarpur. In Kapurthala, 362 have been rescued. Additionally, they have rescued 163 in Mansa and 115 in Moga. They have also carried out 1,139 rescues in Pathankot and rescued 60 people in Tarn Taran district.
flood-hit areas : 122 relief camps are operational in affected districts
Mundian further said that authorities have increased the number of relief camps alongside the evacuation drives. Currently, 122 relief camps are operational in affected districts sheltering 6,582 affected people.
Giving district-wise breakup, the Cabinet Minister said camps have been set up in various districts. There are 16 in Amritsar, 1 in Barnala, 7 in Fazilka, 8 in Ferozepur, 25 in Gurdaspur, and 20 in Hoshiarpur. Additionally, there are 4 in Kapurthala. 1 in Mansa. There are 5 in Moga and 14 in Pathankot. There is 1 in Sangrur and 20 in Patiala.*He added that the government has directed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure the availability of essential supplies in these camps.
Mundian said that district Amritsar camps are sheltering 170 persons. Barnala is sheltering 25. Fazilka has 652, and Ferozepur is sheltering 3987. Gurdaspur has 411, and Hoshiarpur has 478. Kapurthala is sheltering 110. Mansa is sheltering 163, and Moga has 115. Pathankot is sheltering 411, and Sangrur has 60.
The Army, Navy, and Air Force are actively serving
The Cabinet Minister expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of NDRF, SDRF, Army, Punjab Police, and NGOs. They have supported the government during this critical time.He said that authorities have deployed 6 NDRF teams in Gurdaspur and one team each in Fazilka, Ferozepur, Pathankot, and Amritsar. Similarly, 2 SDRF teams are operational in Kapurthala. The Army, Navy, and Air Force are actively serving in Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, and Pathankot. Additionally, one BSF team is carrying out relief works in each of Gurdaspur and Ferozepur. Punjab Police and Fire Brigade are assisting the administration in affected areas of Kapurthala and Ferozepur. He said that teams are using 15 boats in Kapurthala, 12 in Ferozepur, and 4 in Pathankot for evacuations, while they carry out airlifting operations wherever needed.
1312 villages impacted by floods across Punjab
The Revenue Minister informed that so far a total of 1312 villages have been impacted by floods across Punjab. These include 93 in Amritsar, 26 in Barnala, 21 in Bathinda, 1 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 92 in Fazilka, 107 in Ferozepur, 324 in Gurdaspur, 86 in Hoshiarpur, 55 in Jalandhar, 123 in Kapurthala, 26 in Ludhiana, 4 in Malerkotla, 77 in Mansa, 35 in Moga, 81 in Pathankot, 14 in Patiala, 2 in Rupnagar, 22 in Sangrur, 1 in SAS Nagar, 3 in SBS Nagar, 74 in Sri Muktsar Sahib and 45 in Tarn Taran.
