Supporting the farmers’ movement and raising their voice, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that every effort was being made to suppress the agitation of the farmers. Addressing a press conference convened at the party headquarters here on Thursday, senior leader of the party and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the AAP was the first party to oppose the central farm laws, the first party to support the farmers’ kooch to Delhi and the only party that stood shoulder to shoulder along with the farmers in their fight.
He said that to strengthen the farmers’ movement and to raise their voice further, AAP‘s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is coming to Bagha Purana on March 21 at 11am. Cheema appealed to every citizen of Punjab to come along with their families in large numbers to Bagha Purana on March 21 and strengthen this agitation of the farmers. “The farmers of our country made the land fertile by fighting the animals in the forest so that the people of this country do not go hungry. The farmers of our country starved themselves from time to time and fed the country with food,” he added.
Cheema said that now the same farmer had been cheated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government. He said that the government had stabbed the farmers in the back and had conspired to take away their land from them. “But Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party always stood with the farmers. From the road to the Parliament, the Aam Aadmi Party raised the voice of the farmers,” he said. Cheema said that when the farmers were protesting against the Modi government in severe cold and harsh weather; Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party helped the farmers by working as ‘sewadar’.
