SC Commission summons Patiala’s Deputy Commissioner
Chandigarh, August 1 ; Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi has taken suo moto notice of two issues. The first issue is that the people of Scheduled Castes do not possess the Shamlat land (Common land) in the village Bathoi Kalan in Patiala district. This is despite depositing the due fee. The second issue concerns the protest held after the case of a truck driver suicide in village Niyal.The Commission spokesperson said that they have personally summoned Deputy Commissioner Patiala Dr. Preeti Yadav on August 5, 2025, to provide information about the action taken so far by the district administration in both cases.
In the case of truck driver suicide, the deceased Harpreet Singh belongs to the Scheduled Castes. The family of the deceased has been staging a protest by keeping the body on the road for the last 6 days.
