Disclose names of all leaders who shielded the sacrilege perpetrators – Sukhbir S Badal to Congress
Chandigarh, July 18 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today demanded the Congress party disclose the name of all their leaders. These leaders had shielded the perpetrators of the heinous 2015 sacrileges of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. This demand came after senior leaders acknowledged the party’s political maneuvering on this issue. They admitted to exploiting it for political gains.
Pargat Singh admitted something in the Vidhan Sabha; Sukhbir Badal
Sukhbir Badal made this assertion in a statement here. He said that recent admissions made it necessary for both leaders. Senior leader Pargat Singh admitted something in the Vidhan Sabha. Former home minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa admitted something in a recent interview. It was essential for the Congress party to come clean. They needed to explain their involvement in politics. This was concerning the sacrilege of the living Guru of the Sikh community.
The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government are on the same page on this issue. Sukhbir Badal said, “Randhawa has asserted in his interview. No one is prepared to pursue the sacrilege cases fully. They are not reaching their logical conclusion.”
Badal spoke about the roles of various Special Investigation Teams
Badal spoke about the roles of various Special Investigation Teams (SITs) formed to probe the sacrilege cases. He said, “Randhawa has clearly stated that they had been formed to befool the people.” He said the Congress leader had also stated something important. Randhawa would have asked for an explanation from former IG of police – Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh. Randhawa would not have accepted his resignation if he had been Home minister.
This is a clear indication of Kunwar Vijay. It makes it clear that sections in the erstwhile Congress government were convinced. They believed the police officer was indulging in politics on the issue of sacrilege. He collaborated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He joined them immediately after resigning from the police force.
Cheema and Harjot Bains had defended Naresh Yadav
The SAD leader said the admission of the Congress leaders was significant with the advent of AAP in the State. Sacrileges occurred subsequently. An AAP legislator committed sacrilege of the Holy Koran Sharif, and the court convicted him for it.Therefore, authorities need to probe the party’s role in all sacrilege incidents.
The senior AAP leadership was also responsible for patronizing the perpetrators of sacrilege, Mr Badal asserted. He said AAP cabinet ministers Harpal Cheema and Harjot Bains had defended Naresh Yadav. In 2016, authorities convicted AAP legislator Naresh Yadav for committing sacrilege of the Koran Sharif.
“Dismiss both ministers from the cabinet for supporting a sacrilege accused and initiate criminal action against them.” This action should follow the new Punjab Prevention of Offences Against Holy Scripture(s) Bill, 2025. The government proposes to convert it into a law.”
He said the authorities should take similar action against AAP leader Sandeep Pathak, who recommended giving the party ticket from Mehrauli in Delhi to Yadav after his conviction. He added that authorities should take the same action against AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal for approving this decision.
